Stacy Stowers: Traveling Raw Chef brings love to families…and raw vegan food.

Written by Ariel Policano
I couldn’t get out of bed or get dressed. I was on all kinds of pain medication
and sleeping pills. I was using coffee and alcohol every day for the pain.
Eventually my teeth started to fall out.” – Stacy Stowers, about her life before discovering the raw vegan diet.
.
Stacy Stowers has the coolest life EVER, in my humble opinion. She followed her heart and the direction that it lead her in is one of the most unpredictable but deliciously successful that you could imagine. I have always said that, with regard to health, that following your heart is one of the vital parts of healthy life. To take that further, I believe that which most want to do in your heart is:
*  What your divine mission has always been.
*  Something that will make you so happy you can hardly wait to get out of bed each morning.
*  This vision also has incredible benefits for everyone you come into contact with. It is the ultimate service to follow your heart and it is for the highest good.
Well, I could not imagine a more perfect embodiment of this than Stacy Stowers. Let’s look at her journey and see where she has come from and how a raw vegan diet has transformed her life and the lives of those around her.
The decision to get well
In 2007, Stacy Stowers made a decision, either consciously or unconsciously. She decided to heal her body from severe pain and other symptoms of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is an illness whose cause is officially unknown. The symptoms include chronic insomnia and constant pain throughout the body. I’ve noticed in my medical practice and in my research that fibromyalgia is often an accumulation of toxic waste and unresolved emotional issues.
Stacy had been dealing with this terrible and constant pain for about 16 years. The initiating factor in her illness was the contraction of valley fever, a fungal infection that attacks the body’s immune system. After a total of 10 days on raw foods, she had not only gotten out of bed for the first time in months, but she felt so full of energy that she went long walk, something that she rarely could manage! She knew she had discovered something incredible, something apparently magical! She continued to incorporate more and more raw foods into her life. Her body, mind and spirit healed so powerfully that she had a longing to share this with others.
Stacy has this “crazy” idea. You know that crazy idea? The one that isn’t crazy at all but is the deepest longing in your heart? Well, Stacy decided follow this longing. She had the courage to sell everything and to commit to going out on the road for one year. She would go to one family’s house for an entire week and share with them everything she knew about raw food preparation and how it had changed her life.
Family affair
As she began to touch the lives of these families, she saw the most incredible and unexpected changes.
“Not once have I left a house at the end of the week where people didn’t feel the difference. One thing I am definitely sure of  is, if there is a reluctant person in the household, they are always won over.”
Stacy has that magical way of turning appealing dishes into ecstatically delicious dishes that you don’t want your eyes or your tummy to miss! Her recipes are practical and even joyful. Her signature smoothie is her aptly named “Happy Shake”. Truly, if you drink this each morning you will find yourself with a smile on your face!
Love in action
What makes Stacy so special is her desire to give people this wonderful experience she herself had. And she does this with so much compassion for others. When she lives with her “family” (and it does feel like family to her, each and every one) she really works to make that transition as easy, as fun and as tasty as possible. Her goal is to keep most of the recipes simple. For one family, she re-invented the hamburger. It is a delicious homage to the all-American meal with veggies and walnuts! For another family, she created raw “Cheetos” and they do taste and look like Cheetos! She is so creative!
I have to say I have a special place in my heart for the work of Stacy Stowers as she inspires me and is such a beautiful example of love in action!
Stacy’s Happy Shake (yes, it really does make you feel tingly all over…)
Happy Shake by Stacy Stowers
Every morning I start my family off with the “Happy Shake”. I developed this recipe and technique because I was not happy with the typical green smoothie that tasted like lawn clippings to me. I wanted a chocolate soft serve ice cream and this is what I created! Meet the “Happy Shake”.

 1. The BASE: 3-4 cups fresh spinach…..GREEN is Glorious! Nothing to bitter here. Save the kale for a nice kale salad. 1/2 cup liquid (start with less liquid and add more as needed)…..water, juice, nut milk. It’s your choice. Michael West from Vineyard Haven MA, insists on Coconut Water.
 2. A GOOD FAT is essential for keeping you satisfied and metabolizing the spinach: You could use 1Tbs. coconut oil or 1-2 Tbs. Hemp Seed, a complete protien. Good fat won’t make you fat!
 3. The “HAPPY” Part: 1/2-1Tbs. Maca… for stamina, endurance, mental clarity and peak sexual performance for both men and women; 1Tbs. Raw Cacao (Raw Chocolate)… in it’s Raw state chocolate is actually a valuable potent super food loaded with nutrients and neuro-peptides very similar to the ones our bodies create when we are in LOVE! 1Tbs. of a super GREEN RAW powder… GREEN is highly alkalizing. This is crucial and very important for weight management and longevity! Vitamineral Green is my current favorite.
 4. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT… DO NOT ADD FRUIT HERE. BLEND into a SLUDGE!!!!!
… this is the “sludge” & a crucial step for a Happy Shake!!!
 5. Now you can add your favorite FROZEN fruit… frozen Banana, frozen Blueberry and frozen Raspberry (Rod & Allison’s favorite)
 6. Blend.
THANK YOU STACY FOR ALL THE LOVE AND YOUR WONDERFUL SPIRIT TO SHARE THE HEALING BLESSINGS OF RAW FOOD WITH THE WORLD…ONE FAMILY AT A TIME!
